“Devil in the Dark” 12-hour endurance race to test man and machine at NJMP

Spectator tickets just $12 in advance for first spectator race of NJMP season on April 27th

MILLVILLE, N.J. – New Jersey Motorsports Park is preparing to host its fourth annual 12-hour endurance race on Saturday, April 27th, 2013.

“The Devil in the Dark” returns to the 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway, featuring dozens of different classes of sportscars from the South Jersey Region of the SCCA, is set to begin at noon on Saturday, ending with the checkered flag ending 720 minutes later at midnight.

In previous years’ races, drivers have completed over 400 laps good for nearly 950 miles around NJMP’s premiere road course.

SCCA endurance racing has a long history and can trace its spiritual roots back to the legendary classics such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and the 12 Hours of Sebring.

The club’s South Jersey region conducted 4-hour races in the late 1950’s through the 60’s at the Vineland Speedway, which was located a short distance from New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Participating cars will be divided into classes according to their power-to-weight ratios, giving them the ability to compete against each other on a level playing field for a “class victory”, while all being eligible for the overall race win.

Tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.njmp.com for just $12, and will be available at the gate. Gate prices are subject to be higher on the event date.

Despite cool temperatures, NJMP’s 2nd annual Open House kicks off season in style

Free admission, parade laps, and karting experiences attract thousands to Millville facility

MILLVILLE, N.J. – With nearly a full calendar year separating New Jersey Motorsports Park from its inaugural (and overwhelming) Open House, those behind the event are feeling much better about their second effort.

On Saturday, March 2nd, between six and seven thousand fans came through the Park’s gates, braving a blast of cold weather to experience all that the southern New Jersey circuits have to offer.

Over 3600 motorcycles and cars took advantage of parade laps on Thunderbolt and Lightning Raceways totaling nearly 8,000 miles in all.

F1 Karting at New Jersey Motorsports Park was just as busy, strapping in fans for over 600 miles of driving on NJMP’s renowned karting courses.

Months of planning went into preventing the mistakes from last year’s event, which blew away expectations, and the attendance projections of Park officials.

“This event was designed to open the facility up to the community,” general manager Brad Scott said. “We want to show people what we do here, thank them for their participation, and create awareness throughout the region.”

In addition to track time, attendees found a variety of vendors, static car and motorcycle displays, and concession specials throughout the Park.

NJMP’s newest venture, “The General’s Store”, located on Thunderbolt Raceway at the base of the Officer’s Club, held its grand opening during the event.

“I’ve been here since [New Jersey Motorsports Park] opened,” Millville resident Juanita Flores told the South Jersey Times on Saturday. “It’s a great place to bring my family. It’s so much fun and it keeps getting better and better. We love it.”

Those who registered for their tickets online can give their own feedback to the NJMP staff through post-event surveys that will be e-mailed to them this week.

“The fan surveys will help us continue to improve,” Scott said. “Many of the comments we received following last year’s Open House were voiced in our meetings leading up to this year’s event. They’re very helpful.”

New Jersey Motorsports Park’s first on-track spectator event of 2013 is under two months away, when the SCCA’s “Devil in the Dark” 12-hour endurance race takes center stage at Thunderbolt Raceway on April 27th.

Tickets for the Devil in the Dark can be purchased online at store.njmp.com or by calling 856-327-7256.
