Coat Drive Makes a Difference for over 500 Cumberland County Children from 19 Schools; Subaru, Bottinos’ Shoprite and South Jersey Industries Play Major Roles
MILLVILLE, N.J. – Over 500 local school children are scheduled to visit New Jersey Motorsports Park on Friday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to benefit from the “Coats For Kids” holiday program hosted by the NJMP Green Flag Children’s Charities.
Cumberland County elementary and middle school students, selected by their school, will choose a brand new winter coat, a pair of gloves or mittens, a hat and a scarf, a book, a pair of slippers and enjoy a hot, healthy lunch, plus a visit with Santa. Each item has been donated to the drive by corporations, Green Flag Committee members, individuals from the South Jersey region and generous support from the motorsports community.
“The support of the corporate and local volunteer community in providing these students with warm-weather clothing is heartwarming,” said Patti Mackie, co-chairperson of the Coats for Kids committee.
“This is one of those special events we look forward to hosting every holiday season,” said Brad Scott, general manager of New Jersey Motorsports Park. “We’re thankful for the support of the community and we’re pleased that over 500 children in Cumberland County will benefit from the coat drive.”
“The Green Flag Children’s Charities was created to support local children’s-based organizations,” said Don Fauerbach, founder of the NJMP Green Flag Committee. “For the fifth year in a row we are providing children in need from Cumberland County with warmth and happiness during the holidays. We’re thankful for the support of our corporate sponsors, our community, and our volunteers who have helped us raise the funds necessary to accomplish this special goal for these special children.”
Leading the corporate contribution list are Subaru of America, Shoprite and South Jersey Industries with their generous contributions of funds, food and apparel. Subaru is the Official Vehicle of New Jersey Motorsports Park. Bottinos’ Shoprite Stores are donating, preparing and serving the complete lunch for the children and South Jersey Industries is providing funding to purchase a portion of the winter wear.
The motorsports community has come on strong in support of this year’s coat drive. The South Jersey Region of the Sport Car Club of America (SCCA) conducted a funds drive to benefit the upcoming event, raising hundreds of dollars to help purchase additional winter coats during their recent regional races held at NJMP.
In addition to the Coats For Kids program, NJMP plays host to a number of community fund raising events throughout the year. The facility also annually hosts the Barbara Cook and Bill Bottino Mud Run For Cancer and a Daytona 500 viewing party that raises funds for the Green Flag Children’s Charities.
