Porsche Cayman racing series takes to Thunderbolt Raceway as part of NASA weekend
MILLVILLE, N.J. – Thunderbolt Raceway is the battleground for Round 3 of the Intercontinental Trophy Cup presented by Avitus Group, coming to New Jersey Motorsports Park as part of National Auto Sport Association’s May 17th-19th event weekend.
ITC is a road racing series priding itself in competing on some of the most hallowed tarmac in North America, with stops at Road Atlanta and Sebring preceding this season’s New Jersey date.
Utilizing the Porsche Cayman as the foundation for competition, ITC has partnered with NASA for seven rounds across the country, with an eighth non-points race at Virginia International Raceway as part of the American Le Mans Series weekend in Alton.
ITC is coming off a weekend of competition at Sebring International Raceway in Florida, in which the Isringhausen Motorsports stable levied several wins at the hands of Dan Martinson (GTP class), Geoff Isringhausen (P1 class) and Lukas Johnson (P2 class), who swept all three races at the storied track.
The series’ third season is full of storylines, including promising, young talent, New Jersey connections, and professional drivers taking part in the entire ITC schedule:
YOUTH MOVEMENT: Andrew Baxter, Lukas Johnson and Tanner Whitten are all 24-years-old or younger, and setting their sights on moving up, but see ITC as a viable, affordable and fun series to make the first step in racing.
NOTHING LIKE HOME: 2011 P1 Champion Tim Fox, 2012 P2 Champion Scott Leder, Vern Chevalier, Ralph Marra, Andrew Baxter, and Charlie Bellaurdo won’t be racing far from home this weekend, same with New Jersey-based Bodymotion Racing.
PRO DRIVERS IN IT FOR THE LONG HAUL: Professional racers will be co-drivers in the 4-hour endurance race on Saturday, including Dan Clarke and Stephen Simpson.
