New Jersey Motorsports Park Vintage Festival A Family Affair

Millville, N.J. (May 29, 2009) - In the 10 months that New Jersey Motorsports Park has been opened, the Millville facility has quickly earned a reputation as family friendly. This weekend's New Jersey Vintage Grand Prix Festival, running this weekend May 29-31, may take the "family" aspect to a new level.

On the track, three generations of the Morici family from Cliffton, N.J. are racing this weekend, each behind the wheel of a vintage Lotus. Jerry, Chris and Christian Morici all agree that motorsports has brought the family closer together.

"We've always been close," said Jerry, the father of Chris and grandfather of Christian. "We've had a lot of fun, a lot of cars, and its nice that the entire family has the same hobby."

"We got started because my dad raced and I used to crew for him at Watkins Glen," said Chris, who has two brothers who also race but aren't at New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend. "I wanted to drive, and have been doing it for over 20 years. When my son started to tag along, he wanted to drive."

By then, it was in Christian's blood.

"My first eight birthdays were spent at the track," said the youngest Morici racer (for now). "We're close, but this takes it to another level."

"Nothing beats being on the track with your father and grandfather, then going to dinner that night to hear the excuses," he added with a laugh.

Off the track, Saturday's Cumberland County Community Festival has a number of activities for families. Cumberland County residents can purchase Saturday tickets for just $10 with a valid identification card at the gate. As with all events, children 12 and under are admitted free to New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Once inside, families have a choice of activities. Cumberland County-area bands and other musical acts, ranging from classic rock to country, will be performing on stage. A classic car show will let each family member pick out a dream car.

To quench a sweet tooth, two local ice cream vendors have created flavors using dessert ingredients from Vineland's Limpert Brothers, manufacturer of the original marshmallow fluff. Visitors can sample each flavor and vote for the favorite, with the most popular flavor added to the Breighton Room at New Jersey Motorsports Park's dessert menu.

More than 40 vendors, from food vendors to local businesses and organizations, have spaces to visit and collect information. Most activities are included in the price of admission to the Cumberland County Community Festival during the New Jersey Vintage Grand Prix Festival.
