Barbara was a much-loved community advocate, charity organizer, fitness enthusiast and businesswoman. The Barbara Cook Run-Ride-Walk for Cancer at New Jersey Motorsports Park will raise both awareness and funds to fight cancer. The number of events and activities has expanded from 2008. The following events are slated: • Fun Walk
• 31- and 62-Mile Rides: Registration opens at 7 AM with the rides starting at 8 AM. Both courses begin on Lightning Raceway then onto the ideal riding conditions of rural South Jersey roads. Competitors, please note that the cycling part of the event will be run on public roadways, and that there will be NO ROAD CLOSURES. At key turns and intersections along the course, local police will assist with traffic management, and the course will be plainly marked. Police will be stationed at their respective intersections strategically, and once the bulk of riders have passed, they will leave their posts. There will be course sweepers later in the event to assist riders with mechanical problems, but riders are reminded that they are responsible for their own safety on course. • 5K and 10K Runs: Both will start at 6 PM on Lightning Raceway, with registration opening at 4:30 PM. The 10K course will wind throughout the 500-acre park. • Fun Walk: Registration will open at 4:30 PM and the event will begin immediately after the 6 PM start of the 5 and 10K runs. A 1-mile course and the entire 2-mile Lightning Raceway will be set up for participants’ choice. • 8-Mile Fun Ride: Registration begins at 4:30 PM, and starts at 6 PM on Lightning Raceway. Course runs throughout the 500-acre facility. • Awards Ceremony: Will take place at or around 7:15 PM. Awards for first through third place will be handed out in seven age categories. Highest individual fundraiser, along with highest fundraising team and largest participating team will also receive awards. • Barbeque Reception: Will begin at 6 PM to accommodate those who wish to participate to help raise funds, but do not want to run, ride or walk. Good food, beverages, plus raffles, auctions and other fun events will be a part of the reception’s activities.
