Carroll Shelby Collaborates on Track Design at New Jersey Motorsports Park

Millville, NJ – September 4, 2007

American racing icon Carroll Shelby has lent his expertise to the developers of New Jersey Motorsports park, a new multi-use racing facility in southern New Jersey. As one of the leading Motorsports and automotive minds in the history of the industry, Shelby has for the first time helped collaborate on a new Motorsports facility. Famed for his Shelby Cobra, Ford Mustang GT350s and GT500s, as well as his overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving for Aston Martin and then as team owner for the historic Ford GT40’s triumph over Ferrari in 1966 and 1967. 

Principal Harvey Siegel, himself the visionary behind the revitalization of the historic Virginia International Raceway, was thrilled to announce Shelby’s involvement. “Lee Brahin, the project co-developer, and RJ Valentine shared vision for the development of New Jersey Motorsports Park, and having Carroll Shelby’s collaboration on the layout and conceptual design of our Thunderbolt Raceway and Lightning Road courses is a new high-water mark for our team. In the American racing world, there isn’t another man who’s accomplished as much as Carroll, and we’re honored to have his participation in our project. It’s unusual for new Motorsports facilities to have help from the get-go on track design, and I think this will give us a signature aspect to what we anticipate will be one of the marquee facilities in North America.” 

The New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP), featuring Thunderbolt Raceway, is a $150 million world class Motorsports complex located on 700 acres of land adjacent to the Millville, New Jersey airport. Members of NJMP will enjoy road, oval and off-road racing venues, as well as luxurious spectator and participant facilities including VIP suites, shade tree garages, event garages and trackside villas.

Scheduled to open in June 2008, it will be the only US Motorsports complex with such diverse venues as two road courses, driver training and skid pad facility, 3/4 mile tri-oval, high performance kart track and an off-road vehicle course for extreme sports – all situated in a country club setting. In addition to the Motorsports attractions, NJMP will also include a conference center, an aircraft and automobile museum as well as diverse retail shopping experiences.
